Challenges:

Primepaw, a positive reinforcement dog training facility located in San Francisco, was founded in 2015 by James Baybayan. The goal of the facility has always been to help humans recognize the incredible potential of dogs. The dedication to dogs was unparalleled but the business needed operational help, financial rigor, and people management systems. When James connected with Owners Club he had a fractured team, limited standard operating procedures, and the business was in substantial debt with no fiscal visibility to track their cash flow.

“Our biggest takeaway has been the importance of vulnerability and asking for help. It took us a while to get there, but eventually we realized we needed help. That's when we joined Owners Club for 1:1 coaching– we were dealing with setting up operations, trying to grow, a pandemic, and still trying to push forward."

Objectives:

  • Achieve three months run rate in the bank, and hit $1M in annual revenue.
  • Install people management systems that stabilize the team.
  • Utilize the Owners Manual framework to identify systems that scale the business.

“That's where Owners Club has just been super instrumental in our growth. It's given myself more space mentally to work on bigger things. We have tons of systems in place now that work together to create our viable company. Also, operations are very tight and we're looking forward to continuing to scale and providing high quality services to the dog community."

Solutions:

  • Owners Club immediately jumped into action to stabilize the financial state of the business. Within 1 year the cash balance has 3x-ed and is consistently profit margin positive.
  • The framework gave James a weekly step-by-step task list to programmatically approach the business so he could reach his goals. This year the business will surpass $1M in annual revenue.
  • After months of unemotionally testing sales tactics, the business has identified 3 predictable ways of gaining new customers.
  • James now has a well-oiled machine for people management. He has an amazing general manager, admin, and dozens of trainers on staff so he can step away to Tahoe for winter weekends to snowboard and his facility cruises along without him.

Main Takeaways:

Primepaw surpassed $1M in annual revenue in their 2nd year of coaching.

The primepaw team is exploring 2 more business verticals- private training and specialty dog boarding.
